Pediatric Professionals
5 Class Series in Brooklyn!

Learning and Feeling

Michelle Stohr, OTR/L, Feldenkrais® and Child’Space Practitioner

Debra Wanner, MFA Dance, Feldenkrais® and Child’Space Practitioner

Sensory developmental movement classes for pediatric professionals designed to:

  • Complement your academic and practical knowledge with a physical experience.
  • Feel and improve the connections between curiosity, movement, and learning.
  • Discover how exploring your own action engages you with the process of growth and change.
  • Enhance and deepen your attunement.

This 5 week series will draw on Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement® lessons.

The Feldenkrais Method® is a remarkable approach to human movement, learning, and change that allows new patterns of thinking, moving, and feeling to emerge. It is a complementary approach to conventional therapeutic perspectives.

Students will engage in gentle, often subtle, precisely structured movement explorations that involve thinking, sensing, moving, and imagining. These lessons are based on developmental movements and ordinary functional activities and consist of comfortable, easy movements that gradually evolve into movements of greater range and complexity.

The classes are geared towards physicians, psychologists, play therapists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, pediatric nurses, early childhood teachers, students of the above professions, and those involved in work that focuses on the growth and development of the child.

Each class incorporates a 50-minute movement lesson, with time for reflection and discussion.

This class is taught by Michelle Stöhr, OTR/L and Guild Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner, and Debra Wanner, MFA Dance and Guild Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner.

Tummy-Time Solutions, Rolling, Reaching and More

Michelle Stohr, OTR/L, Feldenkrais® and Child’Space Practitioner

Debra Wanner, MFA Dance, Feldenkrais® and Child’Space Practitioner

This series focuses on babies 2 to 5 months old. In this gentle, joyful class, parents learn to create an environment that supports their baby’s physical, socio-emotional, and cognitive development through movement, touch, face-to-face interaction and song. Together they find ease and pleasure in a wider range of movement possibilities, positions, and transitions including “tummy time” and rolling over.

Observing, respecting, and then supporting the baby’s natural pace for discovering new skills and his or her ability to self-soothe is fundamental to this process. Parents boost their confidence, find new ways to play, and notice positive changes in their babies, while nurturing the rich reciprocal relationship between parent and child. Each week builds on the previous sessions and leaves plenty of time for questions and individual attention.

For parents who are sending their child with a caregiver, we suggest that you attend the first class with them.

Please bring a receiving blanket and a simple, small favorite toy.

Testimonials

I can’t say enough great things about it. I took this class during the summer and am continuing it now for that fall. This class truly stands out from all the others. Also, everyone gets A LOT of individualized attention, which is really nice.

— VS Speech Language Pathologist and mother of Sienna

[Babies 2-5 Months] was an excellent class.  Debra and Michelle were great teachers and clearly cared a lot about, and became invested in, all the babies.  The class taught me activities I can do with my baby that will help him learn transitional movements.  Debra and Michelle also focused on issues particular to each baby (in our case, a flat spot on the back of the baby's head) and provided ideas for how to work on movements that would help in solving the problem.  The class provided a fun activity that helped to get us out the door on cold winter days!  I recommend it.

— Tracy

I really enjoyed Debra and Michelle's class. Debra and Michelle created a warm, responsive learning environment that helped me slow down and appreciate my baby's growth each week. The class was a wonderful way to experience my baby's different stages of development, and share in her discovery of movement.

— Lindsay, mother of 4 month old

Debra is so warm and welcoming! Taking the time to get down on the floor with my little one to watch and learn about all the developmental changes can be a real treat. These are lovely moments - thank you to Debra for providing the space and insights to enjoy them!

— Raquel, mom to S.

There is something profoundly hopeful about cultivating a sensory relationship between parents and their babies while at the same time enhancing a child’s development as it unfolds from this interplay. The world most certainly is a better place because of it.
